Newman focuses on commercial alternative dispute resolution (ADR) in the United Kingdom. First he describes the current state of commercial ADR in the UK. This includes remarks on lawyers and litigation in relation to ADR, as well as a summary of significant procedural rules and organizational developments. Then Newman elaborates the main processes of commercial alternative dispute resolution. These consist of the following: early neutral evaluation; mediation; mediation and arbitration; and mini-trial (executive tribunal). Key principles of ADR are discussed, as are cultural perspectives that pertain to this approach to disputes. Case examples demonstrate certain aspects of ADR.
