This issue of The IARCA Journal focuses entirely on religion and corrections. Tom O’Connor, coordinator for this issue, highlights the spiritual and emotional challenges in being involved in corrections. Religion intersects with corrections at precisely the points where people ask questions of meaning, direction, and purpose. O’Connor reviews the fact that religion has historically played a significant role in the United States penal system, yet it has been a neglected element in criminal justice research. To the extent that this negligence seems to be changing of late, O’Connor and others offer the articles in this issue to further the study of religion and corrections.
