Though they are not always linked, restorative justice and community corrections have significant affinities. Indeed, restorative justice builds naturally on the community corrections movement. With significant affinity in the emphasis on community, community corrections can be a natural delivery mechanism for restorative justice practice. Pranis traces stages in the changing relationship between the professional criminal justice system and the community. Then she argues for the importance of community leadership, relationships as the foundation of community health, and respectful and democratic process as a core element of restorative responses to crime.
