Empathy training involves working with offenders to increase their perception of a victim’s experience of crime. Bell explores the nature of empathy and the reasons for studying empathy with offenders. Further discussion covers the relationship between empathy and aggression, and empathy and restorative justice. All of this provides the basis for Bell to detail the interrelationship between empathy, shame, and guilt. This leads to review of a study of an empathy project in New Zealand with women offenders.
