Source: (2001) Address presented at the Long Crendon Women’s Institute, 13 June. Oxford: Church of England, Diocese of Oxford, Board for Social Responsibility.

In this presentation, Superintendent Mel Lofty, head of Youth and Restorative Justice, Thames Valley Police, focuses on restorative justice as a new approach to dealing with crime and conflict, and contrasts it with retributive justice. He discusses underlying principles of restorative justice, types of restorative processes, evidence of effectiveness, recent developments, and future opportunities. As part of his presentation, he briefly recounts a restorative conference based on an event in England and restorative justice efforts by the Thames Valley Police.
