According to Ivo Aertsen, victim-offender mediation in Belgium, for both juvenile offenders and adults, is relatively new. However, policy in criminal law and alternative measures is developing rapidly, partly due to recent instances of crime in Belgium. In this context, Aertsen sketches the landscape of victim-offender mediation in Belgium, with respect to both juvenile justice and more serious adult criminal behavior. His portrait includes an outline of the political structure of Belgium, two experimental programs, the mediation process, mediation for adult offenders, and mediation and reparation.
Your donation helps Prison Fellowship International repair the harm caused by crime by emphasizing accountability, forgiveness, and making amends for prisoners and those affected by their actions. When victims, offenders, and community members meet to decide how to do that, the results are transformational.
