In this essay, Barbara Wall provides a philosophical analysis of the Navajo cosmology underlying Navajo social relations as exemplified in the Peacemaker Court. The purpose is to connect the legal foundations and operations of the Peacemaker Court with the religious values and traditions of Navajo philosophy and religion, especially as found in the creation myth. In the course of her discussion she contrasts Navajo philosophical concepts with Western philosophical conceptions of equality and justice.
