Reflecting on the terrorist attacks against targets in the United States on September 11, 2001, Lederach asks where we are going. The answer depends very much on how we define the nature of the journey, its challenges, and ultimately its proposed destination. He indicates that the destination ought to involve the building of global and local relationships among diverse people – in short, interdependence. To explore all of this he brings to bear his faith tradition – Mennonite – and his professional experience in conflict resolution. In particular he considers the nature of terrorism and its context, the meaning of justice, the idea of the enemy, the need for transformation, paradoxes of terrorism, and steps toward interdependence.
