This paper reports evaluation findings on the Haringey (United Kingdom) Family Group Conference project. While the family group conference model has been used successfully with a wide range of cases, the focus in Haringey was on child protection cases after an initial child protection conference. The evaluation was undertaken by the University of Sheffield in connection with the project manager. It covered the use of specific referral criteria; the use of the model after an initial child protection conference; the applicability of the process and process outcomes in a multi-ethnic, multi-language population; and the resource demands on the social service department.
