This article gives the basic definition of reconciliation and describes reconciliation commissions that have been established in Australia as well as other nations. The Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation in Australia has aided in restoring justice to aborigines who have offended or been victimized. The restorative justice system in this article is described as one with “compassion and generosity, of gentleness and hospitality and sharingâ€?. The philosophy behind restorative justice and reconciliation is closely linked to the aboriginal ideal that people are intrinsically linked. They describe it is ‘My humanity is caught up in your humanity. I am because you are’.
