With the emergence of restorative justice in the 1970s, various initiatives were undertaken to apply the new principles in, for example, New Zealand, Australia, and England (the Thames Valley Police). Wright observes that in England at least the emphasis was on speed of development rather than preparation. Hence, he argues that, among other needs in the development of restorative justice programs, training is vital. Wright therefore sketches what good training ought to look like for those who operate and participate in restorative justice programs.
