According to the authors of this article, victim-offender mediation (VOM) is the oldest and most widely practiced expression of restorative justice. With respect to juvenile justice, the authors state there is a growing body of research investigating the relationship between juvenile participation in VOM and the prevalence and severity of recidivism. There is a need, then, for a comprehensive analysis of this research – a meta-analysis to aggregate and synthesize the results from many research studies. The results of such a meta-analysis will have important implications for the development of juvenile justice programs and for policy-making with respect to the consideration of restorative justice approaches. With all of this in mind, the authors present in this paper a meta-analysis of the research on VOM and subsequent delinquent activity by juveniles.
