Noe Alberto Jose begins this reflection on his attendance at the African Peacebuilding Institute with the observation that Angola, his country, has been torn by a culture of violence for more than forty years. Most people, including himself, have been affected by the violence in one way or another. With this very personal background in situations of conflict, Jose recounts his experiences and his intellectual and personal growth through participation in the Institute. This leads to remarks on the application of the peace studies at the Institute to the violence in Angola.
