Marzena Kruk reports on an international conference held in Poland in April 2001. The conference was on “Detention Pending Trial in Poland- Procedural and Penitentiary Issues.” Participants included government representatives from Georgia, Mongolia, and Ukraine; experts in Polish criminal law; and various professionals and practitioners. The conference covered Polish criminal law and procedure, in particular with respect to mediation. Kruk herself presented a paper on the use of mediation as an alternative to pre-trial detention.
