The North Carolina court mediation system
gives a powerful role to the plaintiffs/
victims. Because of these benefits, mentioned

to mediation, the plaintiff/victim generally
decides whether mediation will take
place or not. If the defendant does not keep
the agreement, the plaintiff can ask the district
attorney to bring the case to trial. In
practice this is extremely rare, indicating
that agreements are kept. (Excerpt)
