JUSTPEACE Center for Mediation and Conflict Transformation is a mission of the United Methodist Church in the United States. Its purpose is to engage conflict constructively in ways that strive for justice, reconciliation, resource preservation, and restoration of community in churches and society at large. In this article Mary Logan, a trained mediator and JUSTPEACE board member, traces the origins of JUSTPEACE. These included specific instances of conflicts in churches and families that led a number of people to seek ways for the Church to deal with conflict more spiritually and effectively. Thus, from the experiences and convictions of a number of people, JUSTPEACE came into existence.
