Rita Scott is a crown attorney in British Columbia and the board director for the Church Council on Justice and Corrections (CCJC). The CCJC is a Canadian coalition of faith-based individuals and churches advocating for a more humane way to practice criminal justice. The Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights is a committee of the Canadian House of Commons. This paper contains stories she told to the Standing Committee as it studied the proposed new Youth Criminal Justice Act. Based on actual cases dealt with in family group conferencing, the stories highlight the potential for positive outcomes from appropriate restorative justice interventions in response to youth offending.
