‘Sticks and Carrots’ Guidance on: Acceptable Behaviour Contracts.

This document consists of a guidance manual produced by the Antisocial Behaviour Unit of the Scottish Executive. The purpose in producing this guidance is to promote good practice in mitigating and preventing antisocial behavior. It is primarily intended for operational practitioners from all disciplines and agencies addressing antisocial behavior in communities. The particular focus is on the nature and application of an Acceptable Behavior Contract (ABC), sometimes known as an Acceptable Behavior Agreement. This is an early intervention designed to get an individual committing antisocial behavior to acknowledge the behavior and its impact on others such that he or she stops the behavior. Topics covered in the guidance document include a description and rationale for ABCs, antisocial behavior suitable for an ABC, multi-agency collaboration, the ABC process, and developing and monitoring a contract.
