This chapter discusses the restorative justice framework in Belgium. It begins with an overview of the current restorative justice developments and models in Belgium, as well as the most important features of those developments and models. The second part of the chapter discusses theoretical approaches to the institutionalization of restorative justice in Belgium, which is followed by a section stating how to deal with the contradictory influences of crime policy and general societal development that may conflict with institutionalization. The author concludes the chapter by bringing to attention the specificity of restorative justice processes and organizational models as they apply in Belgium.
