This article will illustrate the harshness and ineffectiveness of drug
sentencing guidelines and conspiracy laws applied to mothers and discuss the
negative impact they have on their children. Female offenders are in a unique
situation and would be better served with non-conventional alternative
punishments that address the unique situation of mothers. This article will
argue that the current conspiracy law and minimum sentencing laws are overly
harsh on women and [*265] should be reformed, and suggests restorative justice
