The author responds to criticisms of the restorative justice vision offered in this volume by Andrew Ashworth. It is agreed that certain areas require further clarification and development, but Van Ness contests the assertion that success be measured by a retributive yardstick. Finally, incorporating victim participation in the existing system fails to truly empower victims and fails to consider the needs of communities.
