The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has entered into partnerships with other agencies and Aboriginal communities to provide culturally appropriate programming for Aboriginal offenders. Such programming should recognize that holism is a concept shared by many Aboriginal groups and communities throughout Canada. In this holistic worldview, a person consists of mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions. Healing of a person must occur in all four dimensions. Therefore, program assumptions and delivery should match this worldview. In view of CSC efforts to provide culturally appropriate programming, the authors of this essay note the need for evaluation of that programming. They outline the elements required for culturally appropriate evaluation of CSC programming for Aboriginal offenders.
