Discussing assistance to victims of violence, Stevens focuses in this article on issues related to violence against women. She describes an evolution in this field from recognition and documentation of the problem to prevention and assistance to victims. An evolution is also occurring from treatment of individuals to development of model programs to assist significant numbers of women. With all of this in mind, and in an international context, Stevens examines attempts to integrate assistance to female victims of violence into health care services.
