Brian Phillips notes the importance of building a culture of human rights and durable peace at the community level in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Toward this aim, Quaker Peace and Social Witness has been working with Amnesty International in Bosnia-Herzegovina to raise awareness of human rights issues among young people. Following a three-day training seminar on human rights campaigning in September 2000 in Sarajevo – during which they examined a capital murder case in Georgia (USA) – Bosnian students sent appeals to an Atlanta, Georgia, newspaper to stop the execution of the convicted person.
