Nicholas McGeorge, having worked as a psychologist in the prison service in Great Britain, cites statistics to argue that the British generally take a tougher attitude towards offenders in their criminal justice system than other European countries. The system is characterized by retributive justice. He perceives such as system as contrary to Christian values, whereas restorative justice reflects Christian values and attitudes. Hence, he promotes restorative justice as a new approach to criminal justice in Great Britain
