In this article Moore enters a debate in the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) community as to whether “problem-solvingâ€? mediation or “transformativeâ€? mediation is better. He states that this is a false dichotomy. To get past what he sees as this false dichotomy, Moore argues for a distinction between disputes and conflicts, a distinction that leads to a discussion of community conferencing as an approach that seeks to transform conflict.
