In this article Moore enters a debate in the alternative dispute resolution (ADR) community as to whether Ã¢Â€Âœproblem-solvingÃ¢Â€? mediation or Ã¢Â€ÂœtransformativeÃ¢Â€? mediation is better. He states that this is a false dichotomy. To get past what he sees as this false dichotomy, Moore argues for a distinction between disputes and conflicts, a distinction that leads to a discussion of community conferencing as an approach that seeks to transform conflict.
