Her chapter sketches a history of community mediation in the United States. It also covers the following topics: training and monitoring of volunteer mediators; obtaining referrals for mediation; and extending the types of cases dealt with through community mediation. Case examples are offered, and a profile of a community mediation center in west Michigan is included.
