The authors of this essay observe that there are complex relationships between the four different but interrelated concepts of peace, justice, reconciliation, and coexistence. Even the definitions and uses of the terms can be variable and confusing. Nevertheless, the authors maintain there is agreement among the many perspectives on peacebuilding that reconciliation has more transformative connotations than the concept of coexistence. Also, from the various perspectives, the authors draw a number of common lessons and conclusions about reconciliation, which they enumerate and discuss.
