The Youth Justice Conferencing Training Course was developed in February 1998 to ensure that
effective conferencing occurs within the parameters established by the Young Offenders Act 1997. This course was reviewed and rewritten in the current format in February 1999. The Act was developed with extensive community consultation over a two year period. Over fifty peak community organisations submitted responses to a discussion paper on the subject of Youth Justice Conferencing which was circulated by the NSW Attorney General’s Department. The training and general issues raised in these submissions have been taken into consideration in writing this training package. (excerpt)
