Convenience store robbery case study: Both victim and offender make a personal connection

Luther, Doris

Source: (1999) VOMA Connections, no. 4 (Autumn/Winter): 9

One of the mediators in this case, Doris Luther recounts a mediation in Maine between a juvenile who robbed a convenience store and the two victims who owned the store. Victim offender mediation is different from other mediation in that most of the mediator work is done before the parties meet. Luther summarizes the pre-meeting work with the juvenile offender and the store owners, the subsequent meeting between the offender and the owners, and certain outcomes of the mediation.
