“It is important, therefore, to note that the Decade has the subtitle: “Churches Seeking Reconciliation and Peace”. In a message to the churches, inviting them to become part of the Decade, the Central Committee of the WCC in 1999 said: “We will strive together to overcome the spirit, logic and practice of violence. We will work together to be agents of reconciliation and peace with justice in homes, churches and societies as well as in the political, social and economic structures at global level. We will cooperate to build a culture of peace that is based on just and sustainable communities.” It is to this latter goal – the requirements and conditions for building a culture of peace – that I will first address myself.” (Abstract)
