European VOM forum draws participants from 27 countries

Katrien Lauwaert and Ivo Aertsen report on the first conference of the European Forum for Victim-Offender Mediation and Restorative Justice. The conference, held in October 1999 in Leuven, Belgium, was titled “Victim-Offender Mediation in Europe: Making Restorative Justice Work.â€? Coming from many countries in Europe and elsewhere, approximately 150 people attended. As part of their report, the authors summarize the history and current state of victim-offender mediation (VOM) in Europe, as well as the formation and aims of the European Forum for Victim-Offender Mediation and Restorative Justice.
