Family members spared jail

Sentencing Kane Kena, 21, of Dargaville, on a number of charges
including assault on a female, injuring with intent to injure and
threatening grievous bodily harm, Judge Stan Thorburn said an “ugly
incident” had been turned into a powerful healing process for those
concerned.

…Judge Thorburn said the relevance for referral to the restorative justice agency was “very powerful in this case”.

“The matter has been resolved because of deep family bonds and the deep involvement of the restorative justice agency,” he said.
