In a correctional environment, work can provide an opportunity for rehabilitation. The Girrawaa Creative Work Centre is a facility and program in Bathurst Correctional Centre in New South Wales. The work centre is intended to assist inmates in developing work skills for their economic independence and successful return to the community. It was designed, architecturally and programmatically, to fit with and express indigenous culture. The author describes the significance, history, and functioning of this program for aboriginal or indigenous inmates.
