Involving the victim, offender, and community, Greater Shankill Alternatives is a restorative justice project in Northern Ireland. This document uses a particular example of a youth in trouble to illustrate issues of social turmoil and justice in Northern Ireland. Those conditions led some to seek alternatives to the formal justice of the state and the informal justice of the paramilitaries. They found an alternative in restorative justice principles and practices. Therefore, Greater Shankill Alternatives was formed to address justice issues in the community in a non-violent, restorative manner.
