PendingFamily Group Conferences (FGCs) were created by the Children, Young
Persons, and Their Families Act 1989. This Act deals with State intervention
into childcare and aims to protect children from abuse and neglect through its
care and protection provisions. The Act also established the Youth Court,
which deals with young offenders. FGCs are the backbone of both the care
and protection and youth justice processes. (excerpt)
