“Indigenous justice.”

In their introductory essay to this issue of the journal, the editors contend that indigenous justice has many lessons to teach advocates of restorative justice. Hence, they review aspects of indigenous justice in relation to restorative justice. This includes a sketch of indigenous philosophy, worldview, principles, and practices. Of particular note are practices such as circle sentencing and conferencing. The authors also introduce statistics on Native Americans involved in the current criminal justice system in the United States to indicate problems with that criminal justice system
