As this article notes, New Zealand’s use of restorative justice has gained the interest of a group of Japanese academics. They have determined to make New Zealand the focus of an international study they are conducting into restorative justice. The study will culminate in publication of a book in the near future. This article describes a visit the Japanese academics made to Auckland to meet with a range of people interested in restorative justice, including a judge, court-affiliated practitioners, and representatives from the police and criminal justice system. Of particular interest to the academics is the possibility of applying restorative justice in Japan.
