This book on reconciliation is introduced by its editor. Yaacov Bar-Siman-Tov states that the collection of essays resulted from a multidisciplinary project researching the conditions for stable peace. Although a previous project investigated peace conditions through the lens of international relations, this volume draws on social psychology to look at the cognitive and emotional aspects of developing peace beyond mere resolution of conflict. Bar-Siman-Tov introduces reconciliation as a mutual and consensual process between parties. In the process, hostility is transformed into a more friendly and harmonious relationship. The author sets a framework for the book by listing a number of questions about reconciliation and outlining the rest of the chapters.
