Looking at criminal justice law and policy in California, the authors of this article question the justice of sending more people to prison for longer sentences. They contend that the situation in California is moving toward a crisis. Citing statistics and arguments based on certain principles, they claim that more and more people are being funneled into the criminal justice system than can be handled effectively and positively. The authors urge a restorative justice approach as a different and better way to deal with wrongdoing.
