What is important is that we recognise the importance of the paradigms we use, and that we free ourselves to question these paradigms. Restorative justice is one possibility which challenges our assumptions. It is, however, hardly a paradigm at this point; at most, it can serve as a sensitizing theory. Perhaps it can at least serve to make us think carefully before we impose pain. (excerpt)
