This book is based on a conference held in Poland in 1997 on victim-offender mediation in cases involving juvenile offenders. In this chapter, Dobrochna Wojcik summarizes several of the key matters that were discussed by the participants in the conference. The discussion subjects include the following: selection of cases for mediation; results of mediation; the question of a maximum period allowed for mediation; different forms of mediation; the neutrality of the mediator; referrals for mediation by police; financial reparation to the victim; and the question of a victim’s seeking compensation through a civil suit as well as receiving reparation through mediation.
