Writing in a criminological context, Pepinsky chooses to focus on peacemaking rather than focus on making war on crime and violence. He explains in brief why this is so and what led him to this perspective. On this basis, he then argues that claims of success in the “war on crimeâ€? are false and deceptive because crime and criminality cannot actually be counted. This leads to his examination of why he believes this to be the case and how this fits with his emphasis on peacemaking. A significant part of his discussion deals with peacemaking processes in criminology, such as Navajo peacemaking courts.
