Manager as Mediator: Developing a Conflict-Positive Organization

This chapter examines the role and methods of mediation as illuminated by the model presented in chapter 2 of this volume and as applied to organizations. It proposes that, in addition to formal mediation, conflict is so prevalent and potentially so constructive, the mediation needs to be build into the everyday activities of organizations. The organization’s culture and methods should be developed to support managers and employees so that they are able and willing to mediate and manage their conflicts successfully. (excerpt)
