The use of traditional dispute resolution methods practiced outside the rubric of formal criminal justice system is important in maintaining close and continuing relationships in every community. Typically, the use of mediation process, falling within the realm of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) plays a pivotal role as it emphasizes the role of parties themselves to reach a mutually satisfactory resolution. Its advantage in restoring the relationship of the victim and the offender, its essence in maintaining social fabric and its potential as an alternative option to dispose disputes promptly is becoming increasingly recognised.
