Elizabeth Kosier states that there has been a quiet transformation occurring in Nebraska’s formal and informal systems of justice. Namely, Nebraska’s dispute resolution system, begun in 1992, has emerged as a respected and successful model for the delivery of mediation services. The system currently encompasses a broad array of programs and services relating to interaction with courts, family dynamics, and community decision-making. With all of this in mind, Kosier surveys the development, growth, and aspirations of Nebraska’s dispute resolution system. She also outlines present and future issues and challenges facing the development of the system. Her aims are to educate people about the nature and benefits of mediation, and to provide insights for legal practitioners with respect to the integration of mediation and its principles into the legal and judicial spheres.
