Ladies and Gentleman, I would like to welcome you all to today’s conference “Restorative Justice – Looking back to the future”. It is a privilege to be here and I look forward to listening to the various speakers who bring with them their experience of both Irish and International Restorative Justice practices. This conference is a significant example of how both the community and voluntary sector, policy makers and practitioners can work together to achieve a better understanding of restorative justice practices both in Ireland and abroad. I’m sure that we have a lot to learn from each other and I’m delighted to take part in what I’m certain will be an interesting and informative event. I would like to welcome all of today’s speakers and, in particular, keynote speaker, Julia Hennessy from New Zealand. (excerpt)
