As Tony Mandamin writes, the aboriginal peoples of Canada’s First Nations have a deep respect for their elders. It is a respect rooted in their traditional cultures. The Tsuu T’ina Court and peacemaking initiative on the Tsuu T’ina Reserve in southern Alberta are examples of this people’s respect for their elders and the benefits that flow from that respect. Mandamin traces the history and structure of the court and peacemaking initiative, the philosophy and values embedded in them, and the traditional peacemaking processes employed to deal with cases of wrongdoing and conflict.
