We propose that there is an increasing public appetite for a range of social issues, including crime and anti-social behaviour, to be owned and managed at a more localised level. This continues to be underlined by the police in their endeavours to foster stronger local partnership working and community resilience in making local neighbourhoods and our wider communities safer. It introduces a backdrop against which we can explore the option of expanding these neighbourhood-policing arrangements into tackling some of the the more challenging aspects of public protection and has particular relevance for how we continue to develop effective strategies for the management of sexual offenders in the community.
